Position Summary
Classified as: Casual Worker

Hourly-intermittent temporary positions on or after November 6, 2023 and ending on or before June 30, 2024 in Campus Recreation. Possibility of reappointment based on budget, department needs, and job performance.

Under the general supervision of the Fitness Coordinator, this position will
promote health, wellness and recreation to the students, staff, and faculty. Serve as a Fitness Instructor.

Job Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Maintain one or more group fitness exercise classes during the fiscal year including exercise instruction and the distribution, re-organization, cleaning and care of equipment.
  • Communicate regularly with professional staff on programs and with participants and clients according to their needs, schedules, and abilities.
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Knowledge and experience within the past twelve (12) months in leading Group Fitness classes.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate should possess a strong background and interest in physical fitness and exercise with one or more certifications through a highly recognized professional organization (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NSCA, or NASM). Knowledge and experience with a variety of Group Fitness classes preferred. CPR certification preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Ability to communicate with participants about warm-up and cool down exercises, stretching, flexibility, appropriate music, cardiovascular exercise, motivational skills, fun and knowledgeable of exercise safety. The Fitness Instructor should be a highly motivated team player who will have the primary responsibility of the supervision of participants. Ability to assist with the distribution, re-organization, cleaning and care of equipment for group fitness classes. Ability to sustain intense cardiovascular exercise for extended periods.
  • A background check (which may include: fingerprinting, checks of employment records, education records, criminal records, civil records, motor vehicle records, professional licenses, and sex offender registries, as position requires) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can begin employment with the CSU.

  • Needs to move fitness equipment.

    Salary Range
    Anticipated salary will be $15.00- $17.00 per hour.
