ENERGY SPECIALIST/TECHNICIAN: The City of Monroe is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Energy Specialist-Technician for the Energy Services Department. Candidates will perform intermediate skilled technical work performing field and office engineering work, assisting with field survey work, entering data into computer system, operating automated drafting equipment, maintaining records and files and conducting energy audits. Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of electrical transmission and distribution system design and operation; thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of natural gas transmission and distribution; thorough knowledge of materials and methods used in construction of electrical and natural gas systems; thorough knowledge of building science as it relates to energy audits and energy conversation; general knowledge of engineering practices, procedures, and techniques; general knowledge of engineering maps and records; some knowledge of the National Electric Code and the Fuel Gas Code; some knowledge of electrical wiring, HVAC control circuits, or other electrical equipment; some knowledge of proper safety procedures, rules, and regulations including National Electric Safety Code, OSHA, and City policies; skill in the use of AutoCAD and GIS software; interpersonal and problem solving skills; marketing promotion and public speaking skills; ability to draw sketches of delivery systems, electrical, and gas utility systems; ability to operate standard office, word processing, and data entry equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in engineering technology, building science, or related field and moderate experience in design and construction of electric distribution, gas distribution, and fiber optic systems including some customer service experience. Ability to obtain Residential Energy Auditor and/or Building Performance Institute (BPI) certifications within two years desired.
