Position Description
The Department of English at the College of Charleston is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English in Early Modern Drama specializing in race and ethnicity to begin on August 16, 2024. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in English or a related field; demonstrated excellence in teaching; and strong potential for scholarly productivity.
The primary duties of this position include (i) teaching college-level courses in English, including courses in Early Modern Drama; (ii) engaging in research; and (iii) performing service to the College, Department, and community.
The Department of English is committed to a diverse and inclusive educational environment and especially encourages applicants from underrepresented groups. The department offers a B.A. in English with three concentrations – Creative Writing, Literature and Film, and Writing, Rhetoric, and Publication – as well as an M.A. in English and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. For faculty members with an active research program, the standard teaching assignment is 3/3. Teaching duties cover all levels, including first-year writing courses, introductory and upper-level courses in the major, and graduate courses. Faculty are encouraged to develop special topics courses fueled by their interests, to pursue affiliations with interdisciplinary programs such as our African American Studies and Women's and Gender Studies programs, and to mentor undergraduate independent study projects and senior theses. Responsibilities of every faculty member include a commitment to teaching excellence, maintaining an outstanding program of research, and providing service to the department and university.
