Position Summary

The mission of the Center for Race, Ethnicity, and Diversity Education (CREDE) is to foster the empowerment, well-being, and holistic growth of ALANAM (African American/Black, Latinx/Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, Alaskan Native, Multiracial) students. Our commitment extends to offering resources that facilitate cultural awareness and intercultural competence for all students. We achieve this through the exploration and celebration of one's own identities and a deep understanding of the diverse identities of others.

The Program Coordinator has primary responsibility for providing programs and services that produce positive effects on understanding one's own and other cultures/identities. The Program Coordinator also contributes to student diversity education and works collaboratively with campus offices that have specialized expertise in specific social identities. The Interim Program Coordinator works in partnership with administration, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community to create a supportive environment for inclusive excellence. This is a full-time, temporary position from April 1st until the end of the 2024 calendar year reporting to the Interim Associate Director for the Center for Race, Ethnicity, & Diversity Education.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required, master's preferred.
  • Theoretical knowledge of student development and identity formation.
  • Experience working and providing programs with/for college students and student groups.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working with students to foster cohesiveness and inclusivity across people with diverse identities.

    Job Duties
    • Black Student Success Initiatives: With the guidance of the Interim Associate Director, the Interim Program Coordinator serves as one of the support systems for international and U.S.-born and raised Black/African American students, providing race and ethnicity-related advocacy, services, and programs to promote identity development, intellectual achievement, personal success, and social belonging.
    • Create, implement, market, and assess programs and events that support Black/African American students including, but not limited to monthly Black Table Talk conversations, MLK Initiatives, Black History Month
    • Supervise and meet weekly with Black Student Success student coordinators
    • Collaborate with fellow CREDE staff and other departments (Residence Life, Gender & LGBTQIA Center, African & African American Studies, etc.) and student organizations (Black Student Union, Elon African Society, Caribbean Students Association, etc.) to provide programs celebrating and promoting a greater understanding of the Black/African American experience.
    • Revamp the Black Collective to gather representatives from Black student organizations
    • Co-advise the African Diaspora LLC alongside the Interim Associate Director
    • Other related duties as assigned by the Interim Associate Director.
    • ALANAM Initiatives: Create and collaborate on educational programming that contributes to the advancement of student success, belonging, and inclusive excellence.
    • In collaboration with CREDE staff, assist with the Student Coordinator Program including training, monthly meetings, professional development, and team-building activities.
    • In collaboration with CREDE staff, coordinate, enhance, and implement the S.M.A.R.T. (Student Mentors Advising Rising Talent) Program, including the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of mentors.
    • Provide marketing and programming assistance for CREDE initiatives
    • Assists with educational sessions on diversity and identity as needed, contributing to advancing students' identity development, intercultural knowledge, skills, and action.
    • As a member of the CREDE team, serves as a campus resource related to student diversity and inclusion, particularly around race and ethnicity.
    • OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Supports university events, including, but not limited to: Convocations, Commencement, Family Weekend, and events related to Admissions and/or New Student Orientation
    • Participates in CREDE staff meetings and Student Life divisional meetings.
    • Is available for occasional weekend travel or evening work related to student organizations, student leadership conferences, retreats, and educational programs.
    • Has a valid driver's license and is insurable by the University's carrier.
    • Other duties assigned by the Interim Associate Director for the Center for Race, Ethnicity, & Diversity Education.
