Francis Marion University invites applications for a Craftsman – Locksmith who, under general supervision, spends approximately 90% of time performing duties that require a high degree of skill and technical competence. The successful candidate will be responsible for the selection, installation, repair and maintenance of locks, panic bars, door closures, access control systems and complicated mechanical systems. Ensures work is completed by other trades craftsmen and assistants when necessary. Approximately 10% of time is spent performing other duties as required.
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
- Designing and installing new security systems and installing new applications utilizing hardware devices used in securing buildings and property;
- Troubleshooting and repairing automatic and card access doors and software issues;
- Troubleshooting and repairing or replacing mechanical systems and components;
- Surveying job requirements and requesting parts, tools, equipment and materials needed;
- Assisting master craftsman or, to the extent of expertise, on his/her own will accomplish necessary tasks in maintenance and repairs of plumbing, electrical systems and carpentry related items;
- Monitoring Building Maintenance personnel during inspections, planning, and repairs of locks and other related issues pertaining to the locksmith trade; and
- Assisting the Zone Maintenance section with inspections and repairs in other buildings on campus.
State Requirements: A high school diploma and trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
FMU Preferences: A high school diploma with specialized mechanical training. Five to six years experience in applicable work in the trade. Direct experience in major re-keying of multiple buildings. Registration with ALOA or other locksmith association. Valid SC driver’s license required.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
