The South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) Public Safety Department has an immediate opening for a highly enthusiastic and self-motivated, full-time Class 1 certified police officer. GSSM is a state residential high school located in Hartsville, SC for 11th and 12th graders that are selected from the brightest students in South Carolina. GSSM also offers extensive outreach programs year round. GSSM offers an exceptional and positive work environment for its employees and contractors. GSSM's Public Safety Department proudly serves and protects the students, faculty, staff and visitors of the school and its campus.
Minimum Qualifications: SCCJA certified as a Class 1 officer in good standing. Must successfully pass a background investigation that includes criminal history, credit history and work history.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years law enforcement experience. Experience working inside a school as a police officer is preferred but not required. School resource officer certification is a plus. An Associate degree or higher is a plus but not required. Active shooter training is a plus. Must have great verbal communication and writing skills.
Additional Information: GSSM Public Safety Officers are all Class 1 certified officers. GSSM provides for all mandated uniforms, equipment and additional training. After hire, the officer will work shiftwork. Weekend work should be expected and is required due to GSSM being a residential high school.
Salary and Benefits: GSSM Public Safety Department is a part of the South Carolina Police Officer's Retirement System (PORS). GSSM offers a highly competitive salary based upon experience and education that also includes full State benefits such as vacation leave, sick leave and holiday leave/pay.
