Educational Technology Specialist
The SC Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) is a nationally ranked, residential high school providing advanced education and research opportunities to high achieving and highly motivated students across South Carolina. We work with incredible students, many who live in-residence, others who attend dual-enrollment classes virtually, and younger students who spend their summers with us in residential and day camps throughout the state.
We are now seeking a talented and experienced person to help support a wide variety of technologies used by our teachers and students on our campus in Hartsville, SC, in our partner school districts, and by students learning at home.
The Education Technology Specialist provides high quality support to teachers and students as they use a broad array of technologies in the school's virtual, residential, and Outreach programs.
This position is based at GSSM's main campus in Hartsville, and involves significant travel to partner school districts and other locations where GSSM provides programs. Travel requirements will vary significantly through the year.
Responsibilities:
1. Support teachers and students by troubleshooting software (application, operating systems and utilities) and hardware (computer, printers, LAN and communication equipment) problems.
2. Assist the Virtual Technology manager to distribute, manage, and account for technology assets used in partner school districts and other places where GSSM provides programs.
3. Train and support GSSM personnel in the use of GSSM application software and equipment.
4. Provides back-up support for the network, including wireless, workstations, printers and communication hardware.
5. Participates in system configuration and equipment installation.
6. Communicate with users to understand needs and make appropriate recommendations to IT managers.
7. Assists in administration of various communication systems and equipment; communicates information from Network Services to various levels of staff in the Supported areas.
Requirements:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field or at least 5 years of professional, relevant experience.
- Experience and demonstrated knowledge in computer setup, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Must be able to work in a school setting.
- Capable of transporting equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Possess a valid SC Driver's license
- Able to work variable schedules based on program schedules and emergencies. This may include evenings, weekends, and infrequent overnight travel.
