Northwood Technical College is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a full-time Health Education Center Simulation Technician at the Shell Lake Health Education Center location.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Health Education Center Simulation Technician is responsible for the daily technical operations for simulations and Telehealth at the Health Education Center. The Technician maintains simulators and support equipment, troubleshoots problems with simulators and support systems, and performs preventative maintenance and repair of simulators and related technology in the Simulation, Standardized Patient, and Telehealth environment.

- Understand the use and operation of different simulation technologies and educational software used at the Health Education Center (HEC), ranging from high fidelity mannequins, advanced procedural task trainers, basic task trainers, and related medical equipment necessary to provide a highly immersive training environment.
- Develop technical proficiency with all aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, troubleshooting, and repair for all simulation and Telehealth equipment at the Health Education Center (HEC).
- Collaborate with local campuses to facilitate connections with Telehealth Hubs via web-conferencing software and any related learning technologies.
- Prepare the facility, mannequins, audiovisual systems, and equipment for training sessions; clean up and reset equipment after educational sessions.
- Operate and interact with audiovisual equipment used during live simulation-based clinical training.
- Learn, install, and configure original hardware and software updates provided by vendors.
- Assist in researching equipment and supply vendors and upgrading simulation equipment and supplies.
- Assist with organization of equipment and supplies in storerooms.
- Monitor equipment performance, safety, and certification.
- Perform routine, preventive maintenance of equipment (according to manufacturers' recommendations) and repairs to ensure that equipment is operational.
- Maintain and troubleshoot problems with simulators, the AV system, and support equipment.
- Serve as a point of contact and interface with equipment manufacturers to maintain functionality, repair equipment, and fix system problems; maintain a record of repairs.
- Serve as a resource and assist with training instructors and staff in the use of simulation and telehealth equipment.
- Keep abreast with new developments in simulation and telehealth technology.
- Support other simulation sessions, trainings, tours, and events for internal and external groups and/or individuals.
- Monitor and keep track of utilization statistics for events and training, including the use of simulation rooms, standardized patients, and telehealth.
- Coordinate and collaborate with Health Sciences, Instructional Technology and other collegewide staff, as relevant.
- Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 30 lbs. of force frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Two years post-secondary education in a related field
- One-year related work experience
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite and the ability to effectively apply technology to tasks and projects
- Ability to contribute to a team environment while maintaining positivity and professionalism
- Strong customer service skills and a focus on creative problem solving
- Time management skills that apply organization and prioritization demonstrating the ability to multitask and work independently
- Ability to obtain driver’s license and insurance coverage in accordance with College policy
- Proficiency in PC based computer software applications, web-conferencing and audio-visual technologies
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree in related field
- Experience in the healthcare field
- Experience with educational simulation
- CHSO (certified healthcare simulation operations specialist) or ability to obtain, two years after employment.
SALARY
FY22 Salary - $17.13 / hour.
