JOB TITLE: Staff Accountant

GENERAL NATURE OF WORK: The Staff Accountant reports directly to the Chief Finance Officer. The Staff Accountant is responsible for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable for SCACAP. The analyzing, reconciling of accounts, preparation of monthly journals entries. This self-motivated individual is a team player with highly developed organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills who is capable of working with minimal supervision and strong attention to detail. Maintain activity in the areas of accounts payables, receivables, cash receipts, bank statements Ensure that SCACAP adheres to Federal, State and Local governance policies and SCACAP internal control guidelines, recommends alternatives and implements solutions for best practices.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Accounts payable processing, including issuing purchase orders
- Analyzing, Preparation and recording of general ledger transactions
- Assist with month-end close process and related financial analysis for SCACAP
- Preparation of monthly account reconciliations and financial worksheets
- Accounts receivable processing, reconciliation and monthly reporting
- Handles cash and cash related transactions, issues receipts, records and types money lists, and balances cash fund; enters cash transactions in G/L and reconciles cash reports; prepares bank deposits
- Reconciles various expenditure reports to source documents; distributes and files financial documents
- Prepares payments by accruing expenses; assigning vendor numbers and invoice verification
- Early Head Start-Child Care Partnership (EHS-CCP) A/P and Invoice processing
- Perform 0ther duties and special projects as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree with at least fifteen (15) semester hours in accounting-related courses and five (5) years of experience in a state government accounting environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex data, the ability to proficiently apply mathematical concepts, communicate effectively, and meet important deadlines.
- Federal/State of SC contract/grant budgeting/reporting procedures and requirements.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment and confidentiality of information
- General office software, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, and accounting software packages Quick books and Blackbaud Accounting Software.
Position is grant funded and continued employment is based on availability of grant funding and satisfactory performance on the job.
