Job Summary:

The Climbing Wall Attendant serves a vital role in day-to-day operations of the entire Outdoor Program. They must possess general knowledge of all other Outdoor Program areas as they are often a gateway for patrons to discover our other program areas. Climbing Wall Attendants supervise the daily activities at the climbing wall to provide a safe and friendly climbing environment for patrons to enjoy the benefits of indoor rock climbing.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Enforces all climbing wall policies and procedures.
2. Visually inspects equipment and facility during opening and closing of wall and report any problems immediately to the climbing wall supervisor.
3. Completes regularly scheduled rope checks.
4. Provides supervision of climbing wall participants to include belaying and spotting climbers
5. Attend all Outdoor Program staff meetings and trainings with a positive attitude and be prepared to share knowledge and give feedback
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of indoor rock climbing including: climbing technique, belaying technique, routes and rating systems, rock climbing safety equipment.
• Knowledge of other outdoor program areas.
• Knowledge of basic customer service techniques.
• Knowledge of indoor rock climbing including climbing technique, belaying technique, routes and ratings systems, rock climbing safety equipment.
• Knowledge of Campus Recreation programs and activities.
• Skill in effective written and verbal communications.
• Ability to work at heights of up to 30 feet.
• Ability to be punctual, dependable, and trustworthy.
• Ability to find a substitute for their shift should one be needed.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and not sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This role is an on campus, in-person position.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
