Program Director for Family and Supporter Engagement

The Division of Student Affairs is the 3ʳᵈ largest of 9 divisions at UNC Charlotte with over 500

There are a range of programs and services that support students’  physical and mental wellbeing, introduce them to campus life and Niner Nation and develop skills and competencies that employers desire. The staff work to create inclusive student-centered learning environments where students excel academically and develop personally into their best selves.

The Program Director provides strategic vision and guidance for family and supporter engagement, program functions, and outreach of the office, including family and supporter components of New Student Orientation, Family Weekend, Niner Nation Family Association, Family Council, and the 49er Family Hub, in addition to other innovative initiatives and services within the unit. As a member of the Dean of Students Office, all staff members advise, counsel, and serve as advocates for students experiencing difficulties or crises. All positions require the flexibility, ability, and willingness to work nights and weekends in structured and unstructured
settings with students, families, student supporters, staff, and faculty.

OVERVIEW OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Program Director develops and implements family and student supporter engagement activities in support of the Charlotte Model. The position is responsible for the creation, implementation, and assessment of family and student supporter initiatives to promote student success and advance students’ sense of belonging. The Program Director manages the Family Council, and leadership-based donor board. A successful candidate is expected to leverage regional and national best practices to expand opportunities for family and student supporter engagement. The Program Director manages a budget of approximately $100,000 and a team of full-time, graduate, and student staff.

Through the utilization of collaborative communications and community building tools, the Program Director will engage with the Enrollment Management, University Development, Alumni office, to enhance the student experience for current and future students. This position collaborates with the Chancellor’s Office, University Communications, and Student Affairs Marketing and Communication to develop family and student supporter centered direct communications and messaging.

The successful candidate will demonstrate their understanding of, and ability to advance, the 
mission, vision, and guiding commitments of UNC Charlotte, the Division of Student Affairs, and the office of Transition and Success Initiatives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
● A Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education or related field.
● Two years of professional experience in parent, family and supporter programs or orientation and transition programs.
● Knowledge of, and practice in, student development theory, counseling and advising practices, 
current transfer student initiatives, and family issues and programming.
● Experience writing, editing, and publishing content for university programs.
● Experience planning, executing, and assessing large-scale events.
● Awareness and understanding of the transitional needs of family members of college students.
