Brief Summary of Work for this Position

We are looking for two candidates who have a background working with marine mammal stranding programs, scientific public outreach experience, and an interest in working with both adults and children. The Internship Coordinator position is a dual role function that involves supervision and administrative support to interns and overseeing the internship program for the UNCW Marine Mammal Stranding Program. Internship Coordinators are expected to participate in the recruitment, interviewing, training, managing and evaluation of intern performance, including assisting interns with organizing and planning outreach assignments they will be involved in throughout the summer, and directing interns to independently create new outreach material for the UNCW MMSP. This includes assisting interns with independent research projects that interns will work on individually or as a team throughout the summer and ensuring that interns gain experience in marine mammal stranding training and database management. This position will also work to ensure successful compliance with UNCW policies and procedures.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or similarly related field
  • Prior experience working with marine mammal stranding programs
  • Prior experience with scientific public outreach
  • Access to reliable form of transportation
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Master's degree in Biology or similarly related field
  • Extensive prior experience working with marine mammal stranding programs
  • Extensive prior experience with scientific public outreach
  • Extensive prior experience working with children in K-12 age range
Required Certifications or Licensure
