Summary:

Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, Department of Information Technology is seeking applicants for a full-time Senior Business Intelligence Analyst. This position will design, develop, and manage data requests that support the School of Dentistry's clinical, academic, research, and administrative business units and processes. The position will build performance metrics dashboards for multiple reporting requirements. The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst will work closely with the Application Development, Infrastructure, and Electronic Health Record teams to design reports, queries, dashboards, and visualizations and build the underlying data architecture supporting these platforms.

Position Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include managing multiple tasks independently daily, including:
  • Design, develop, and distribute database-driven reports that support academic, administrative, research, and clinical business processes using SQL, Crystal Reports, Tableau, PowerBI, and Excel while ensuring data integrity and safety by following appropriate data classification and security best practices
  • Access and edit different database systems through SQL, BI, or reporting tools
  • Manage, combine, integrate, and analyze data from multiple data sources, including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, APIs, and cloud-based resources
  • Create automated performance metrics and extract knowledge and actionable insights for clinical practice managers, school and university leadership, national organizations, and accrediting agencies
  • Design, develop, feed, and maintain data structures, reporting systems, data automation processes, dashboards, and performance metrics to inform critical business decisions and stakeholders
  • Work closely with senior leadership, end users, electronic health record and clinical systems analysts, and application development staff to evaluate business requirements and advise on appropriate informative views and dashboards
  • Analyze, investigate, and implement data management, quality, and improvements with business stakeholders
  • Serve as our organization's honest broker for the IRB and document data flows, data sources, and/or feeds for all data integration projects
  • Assist with selecting, evaluating, building, and maintaining a data warehouse platform and provide expert support for the implementation and optimization of a cloud data lake or warehouse
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required in business administration, computer science, statistics or another related field
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle and Microsoft SQL scripting, including developing SQL queries, stored procedures, and data refresh job schedules
  • Experience with Tableau or PowerBI dashboarding and visualization applications
  • Experience and understanding of AWS, Snowflake, or Google Cloud Platform
  • Familiarity with change control and change management practices
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Superior interpersonal and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to document business processes and operational workflows
  • Excellent knowledge of workflow management and diagramming

  • Working experience in Higher Education or a Healthcare Environment
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related field preferred or equivalent training and experience
  • Knowledge of University systems, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of VCU Information Security Baselines and computer standards
  • Participation in cross-unit or school technology projects
  • Knowledge of Crystal Reports, Google Apps
  • Familiarity with Learning Management System platforms (Canvas)
Salary Range: Up to $105,000 with experience
