To ensure that students, teachers, and administrators have appropriate and effective technologies, training, and support to achieve GSSM's operational and educational goals. Works with the CIO to manage end-user technology throughout its life-cycle of planning, deployment, support, and replacement. Provides primary support of student information systems, classroom and presentation technology, and redundant support for GSSM's network and server infrastructure.
Bachelor's degree in technology or educational/administrative specialization and three years' experience, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates ability to perform the work.
Experience planning, deploying, and supporting technologies associated with servers, computers, networks, peripheral components, and software-based services in a specialized, residential, academic environment.
Knowledge of multi-user operating systems, networking topologies, desktop operating systems, office applications, student information systems, database management to support these technologies through their life-cycle (planning, acquisition, configuration, deployment, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement).
Communication skills required to provide effective and credible assistance.
Requires the ability to work in confined spaces, lift and carry items weighing 25 lbs., use computer peripherals and tools common to computer and network repair, and drive a car. Early morning, late night, weekend, and holiday work are sometimes required. Travel associated with professional development are sometimes required.
Description of Work:
Under limited supervision of the Director of Information Technology, position Employee exhibits independence and displays professional judgement in the execution of responsibilities and in the prioritizing of responses to student, teacher, and administrator needs. Employee balances planned and ad-hoc work requirements and consults with experts as necessary.
Provide advice, training, and technical support to students, teachers, administrators, and guests who use GSSM technology resources.
Install, upgrade, troubleshoot, and provide technical support for student information systems.
Provide life-cycle management for all end-user technology including planning, procurement, configuration, deployment, inventory, repair, upgrades, and replacement.
Install, monitor, troubleshoot, and manage server-based operating systems, software, and services.
Perform nightly system backups, apply operating system patches and upgrades, and monitor resource usage on GSSM servers.
Coordinate with outside providers as necessary to evaluate products and services, resolve technical issues, and achieve highly competitive pricing for technology purchases.
Select, train, and manage a corps of students to provide technical support to other students, faculty, and staff and to provide setup/take-down of media used at events.
Other duties as assigned.
